Back in Western NY
Living in Brooklyn for four and a half years we had the opportunity to visit some of the most popular tourist destinations in the country — Times Square, Central Park, the Museum of Natural history. We loved visiting these places, but after awhile they became less special, and more an opportunity to stay active and healthy.
Returning home to Rochester, we’ve made a commitment to stay active, and what better way to stay active here than to embrace the natural beauty of Western NY? Our first big activity was a trip to beautiful Stony Brook Park outside Dansville NY — just an hour south from the city.
My husband, Adam grew up in that area, and visited the park regularly, and since we met it has become a special place for us. It was awesome to share it with our son Gaius, and to take his soon-to-be little sister along for the ride.
If you haven’t been the park is breathtaking, and we couldn’t have picked a better day to go. It’s less expansive than Letchworth Park, but much more intimate. The path runs along a shale-stone gorge, a serene babbling brook, and up a series of waterfalls. It’s one of our favorite places in the world and we’re so happy and thankful to be back so we can enjoy it as a family.
I can’t lie though, as a 32 week pregnant lady all those narrow stairs were a little much for me! But, a little bit of perseverance, a couple bottles of water, and a lot of breaks to catch my breath, and I made it all the way to the top (and back down again). It was great exercise.
It was a beautiful day, and exactly what I (the Doctor) ordered.
